Tamanco

Irene contacted me after meeting Jack Sanders at El Cosmico in early 2012. She and her husband, both from the Netherlands, are running a unique campground in Portugal.

They expressed their concern for the culture which seems to be flocking to cities and not spending enough time in the wilderness. Their answer is to make nature just as appealing – stylish, tasty and entertaining. Down to Earth Up with Style.

Nick Schnitzer and I spent 3.5 weeks at Tamanco in March of 2015. Hans and Irene gave us a Bungalow and vintage Vespa for our stay and a list of things they needed help with. Other than graphic design and map making, we built out and designed a communal kitchen and lounge.

We spent time working, exploring, eating and reading. The pace is so different in rural Portugal – there is no productivity expectation or anxious energy. You just ‘do’ when doing feels right and ‘be’ when being feels right.
